I don't maintain my bikes in a meticulous fashion. That no secret to my bike mechanics which include Jim and Mark at Hiawatha, Patrick at Freewheel and of course Hurl and Hollywood.
I've ridden with brakes squealing, bottom brackets tick tick ticking and on a number of occasions on flat tires just to get closer to the aid station. Don't go hard around corners on flat tires cuz you might have to ride some on the rim.
Just ride your f-ing bike and look good doing it.
